What is JETAA?
JETAA is The JET Program Alumni Association, which was created to serve the bonds of friendship developed by participants of the JET Program.
The JET Program (Japan Exchange Teaching Program), is run by the Japanese government and hires native English speakers from around the world to serve as Assistant Language Teachers (and also cultural ambassadors) in classrooms all around Japan, exposing their students to real spoken English and introducing them to other cultures. Some JETs are also hired as Coordinators for International Relations and work in city halls, helping to promote and cultivate friendly relationships between Japan and various countries around the world.
JETAA’s purpose is to achieve, through its activities, a broader and deeper understanding between Japan and the countries participating on the program as well as foster community among former and new participants in the JET Program. As such, we serve not only former and prospective JETs, but our community as a whole, and we welcome everyone to join, whether you're connected to JET, part of the Japanese community, or just have an appreciation for Japan.
1. To provide a professional and social network for JET alumni;
2. To serve as a resource to the Japanese Consulate of Portland in its recruitment and training of new JETs; and
3. To promote international understanding on a local level through cultural exchange and community activities.
